Palm Tree by Sybil A. Bissell

The first project I did last January (2008) in my art class was a picture like this.

About once or twice a year I go to Goodwill to look for frames I can "paint in to" or, in this case, "sketch in to". I remove whatever picture comes with the frame and create my own image to put in it. I only buy really well made, solid wood frames, usually they are custom frames, that, over the years, people get rid of. They are a treasure trove for me.

Sailing by Sybil A. Bissell

Sailing is a crewel embroidery picture I stitched and framed back in the 1980's. I gave it as a gift back then but it was eventually returned to me. I'm happy to have it. :-)

Jazz Time by Sybil A. Bissell

I saw a piece of metal wall art in a store and felt inspired to paint myself something similar. The original is mostly done with iridescent metallic paint which makes it shimmer.

Jesus The Word by Sybil A. Bissell

"Jesus the Word" is an acrylic painting by Sybil A. Bissell based on a 7th century Icon from St. Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai Desert. The image is known in the Orthodox church as The Pantokrator (Pantocrator). It is an image of Jesus demonstrating the sign of the Trinity with his hands (Father, Son, Holy Spirit, the three in persons, two natures, as one.) Completed March 2009

Moose (A Winter's Dinner) by Sybil A. Bissell

My father hunted moose every winter up in Northern Alberta and that was our main food source. I recall one year he brought home a bear to eat for the winter. I have it's hide hanging in my house. For some reason my husband and I have a fascination with moose and love to buy moose ornaments. Of course, we had to have a moose picture in our house. This one I did in soft pastels but the image here has been tinted darker in Photoshop.

Lord of the Strings Designs

October 2007

In addition to my paintings and sketches, I designed (Trademarked and Copyrighted too) this "Lord of the Strings" & "Lady of the Strings" design. In this design, the letter "D" is substituted for various stringed musical instruments (guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, harp, sitar, cello, violin and dulcimer) and stringed sports equipment (tennis, racquetball, badminton and lacrosse). You can click on the shirt to visit the website I created for this design.

Tropical Sunset by Sybil A. Bissell

January 2009

In the dead of winter a tropical escape for the imagination seemed like the thing to paint.
My daughter asked for this picture in Blue so, here it is.

Raynor by Sybil A. Bissell

December 2008

This painting is based on a photo taken by Ursula and Brian Jensen of their Norweigan Fjord horse, Raynor. I loved the photo and did my best to paint their horse as accurately as possible. Check out their ranch, horses and riding lesson options at www.TrinityFjords.com .

My Mona by Sybil A. Bissell

October 2008

In September on of my classmates challenged me to "paint the Masters" so I took up the challenge. This is my best attempt at the Mona Lisa. Her face is slimmer than Da Vinci's but, I'm pretty happy with it.

Tess in Paris by Sybil A. Bissell

August 2008

Arctic Night by Sybil A. Bissell

August 2008

I wanted to try to paint the Aurora Borealis as I often saw the Northern Lights when I was a little girl living in Northern Alberta, Canada. I'm not completely satisfied with the Northern lights and will definately try to paint them again. I do love the Igloo though.

At 25 by Sybil A. Bissell

August 2008

I was reading that anyone who wants to be an artist should do several self-portraits. This is my first attempt at a self-portrait. It is based on a picture that was taken when I was twenty-five.

Maligne Lake by Sybil A. Bissell

2008 August

I searched online for this specific place which I've been past many times in the Canadian Rockies. This is Maligne Lake and Spirit Island. It was the first landscape picture I attempted.

Tango at Moonrise by Sybil A. Bissell

June 2008

This is an image I had in my mind, of a couple dancing tango on the top of the world with a full moon behind them. This is the result, which features my husband and I doing the dancing. We take weekly dance lessons and love it.
